Here’s how the rules of the Alliance of American Football league, which debuts on Saturday, differs from the NFL:
Kickers get no respect: With no extra points, teams must go for two after TDs. Field goals are allowed, but …
No kickoffs: It’s safety first, so the game starts with a coin toss. The winning team takes the ball or defers and the ball is placed at the 25-yard line.
And no onside kicks: To keep the ball, a team must gain 12 yards or more on a play from their 28-yard.
Tick, tick, tick: The play clock runs for 35 seconds, five seconds less than the NFL.
Challenge flags: This is similar to the NFL. Coaches get two challenges, and challenges are automatic in the final two minutes of a half and during overtime.
College football OT: Each team begins at the opponent’s 10-yard line and has one possession to score. …
There are ties: If the teams remain tied after both OT attempts, the game ends in a tie.
